The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover is available in two materials, one made from a high quality leather and the other made from a high quality polyurethane. The case has a very sleek and professional look with no visible stitching or Apple logo. Inside the case is the usual Apple tagline “Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China” stamped into the leather.
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover is lined with a suede microfibre material that protects the screen from dust and dirt which could scratch the screen and it also cleans the screen every time you open and close the case.
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover is a very well built case made from the highest quality materials available, which you would expect from Apple. The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover is designed just to cover the screen, so access to all the iPad’s connections is easy. This means that you are not fumbling around trying to access buttons and connections through case cut outs.
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover has no stitching as the suede micro fibre is glued to the back of the leather cover. This improves the look of the case and adds to the minimalistic design thats screams simplicity.
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover connects to the iPad using a magnetic hinge which is made from aluminium. This allows the case to be functional without subtracting anything from the look of the iPad or the case. The hinge is lined with a rubber bumper so that when it snaps into place it will not damage the iPad or the cover.
We loved the weight and the size of the The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover, it is as small and as thin as Apple could go without losing any of the protective qualities. The weight of the cover shows that it is a well built case that will protect your device well. The case we had which was leather weighed 141g without the iPad attached and 748g with the iPad 2. The dimensions of the Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover are 243mm x 189mm x 2mm. Being manufactured by Apple, it fits perfectly to cover the front of the iPad 2 without any overhang.
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover is available in ten colours, five in leather and five in polyurethane. The colours available in leather are Tan, Black, Navy, Cream and (PRODUCT) Red. The colours available in polyurethane are Light Grey, Dark Grey, Blue, Green and Pink. The case we based this review on was the Tan leather case.
The use of bright colours such as the Blue, Green, Red and Pink are a great idea from Apple as they provide protection but allow your iPad to be customised and personal to you. Much like the original iPod Mini in different colours Apple are daring you to be different. The bright colours are guaranteed to get you looks and comments as you walk down the street. Well done Apple you made cases fun! But of course, the leather options are there for those wanting a more professional look for their iPad 2.
Features
Due to the Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover being manufactured by Apple it takes full advantage of the iPad 2 cover lock/unlock feature, automatically locking the iPad when the cover is closed. The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover was the first the first cover on the market to support this feature. The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover allows the iPad to be viewed in two positions; a steep vertical position perpendicular to the surface of the table which is perfect for watching videos, films and FaceTime. It can then be turned around with the case folded in the same way to create the perfect angle for typing.
One feature of the Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover we loved was the magnetic hinge, it clicks perfectly into position every time you put it on, making it easy to remove the cover when ever you need to. The strong magnetic hinge is strong enough that if your iPad drops out of your hand and you have hold of the case your iPad will not hit the floor, we love this feature!
Another feature we really liked was the slimness of the cover, Apple have created this case as thin as possible providing basic protection and stylish looks. It is so thin that you do not even realise it is on the device, and it is also so thin that when you fold it around the back of your iPad it does not ever get in the way.

The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover comes in traditional Apple packaging of brilliant quality, simple design, whilst being fully recyclable, and displaying the product brilliantly. The packaging itself is only slightly bigger that the product, which reduces unnecessary packing which you tend to see in other products. What more could Apple do?
The Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover has great build quality, access to all connections as well as the camera, and this can be done easily due to the brilliant design team behind the case. We loved the range of colours available and the materials used to make this case.
Retailing at £35 for the polyurethane version and £59 for the leather version direct from Apple the Apple iPad 2 Smart Covers is a great buy, and do not let this price put you off. Your iPad deserves the best, and Apple are here to deliver. We believe it will never let you down and its one of the best covers we have ever seen. We do recommend that you buy directly from Apple, wether it is online or in-store at a Apple retail location as there are many cheap fakes online and you will not get the same quality as you would from a genuine Apple product.
